No one knows better than retailers what farmers need to keep their farms healthy and productive. And part of your job is to stay on top of the latest products and technologies that can help your customers meet their goals. At Corteva Agriscience, it’s our job to provide those innovative products meet your and your customers’ needs both today and tomorrow.
With that in mind, we’d like to introduce a new solution from Corteva Agriscience: Utrisha™ N nutrient efficiency optimizer. Utrisha N is a biological product, specifically a biostimulant, that provides crops with an alternative, sustainable nitrogen source to help facilitate growth and, ultimately, optimize yield potential.
Knowing biologicals are relatively new to the market, we understand you and your customers may have a lot of questions. We’re here to answer those questions.
Utrisha N nutrient efficiency optimizer is a microbial, nitrogen fixation product that can supply growing plants additional nitrogen to facilitate growth. This nitrogen source supplements traditional nitrogen programs for a wide variety of crops, including corn, soybeans and wheat.
The bacteria within Utrisha N nutrient efficiency optimizer enter the plant through the leaves and colonize, making above-ground plant tissue their habitat. Once the bacteria colonize, they convert nitrogen gas (N) into ammonium (NH4+), which the plant can use immediately without expending any energy.
In addition, the bacteria in Utrisha N do not overproduce nitrogen. So, it’s an environmentally friendly option for farmers.
Utrisha N nutrient efficiency optimizer provides a natural, sustainable nitrogen source for their crops and easily fits into their current nitrogen programs. We recommend using Utrisha N nutrient efficiency optimizer on corn, for example, alongside conventional nitrogen fertilizers and nitrogen stabilizing products, such as N-Serve® nitrogen stabilizer and Instinct NXTGEN® nitrogen stabilizer.
To truly maximize nitrogen use on a corn-growing operation, farmers can use a traditional nitrogen fertilizer in the fall and/or spring, stabilizing those applications with N-Serve or Instinct NXTGEN, which are both powered by Optinyte® technology, and then applying Utrisha N at the V5 stage. This method will help ensure the nitrogen their corn needs is readily available.
The bacteria in this product stay within the plants and cannot be removed or washed away, continuing to grow as new plant tissue develops. So, Utrisha N helps ease farmers’ worries about nitrogen loss and ensuring a source of nitrogen during critical growth stages. It’s a game-changing product for farmers who combat common nitrogen deficiency concerns with issues like light or sandy soils, poor drainage and heavy rains. Utrisha N is just another tool in a farmer’s toolbox to help get crops the nutrients needed to optimize yield potential.
The bacteria in this product stay within the plants and cannot be removed or washed away, continuing to grow as new plant tissue develops.
Utrisha N is also a convenient product to handle and store. For example, it can be applied between the V4 and V8 corn stages alongside other, approved solutions like certain herbicides. It can be stored anywhere above 39 and below 100 degrees Fahrenheit for up to two years.
Corteva Agriscience has a rigorous testing strategy for all biological products. Symborg, the biostimulant company we’ve partnered with in bringing Utrisha N to farmers, performed years of testing on this product. We’ve conducted our own research trials, and this season, we are testing the product on roughly, 150,000 acres of farms in a wide variety of crops, including corn, soybeans, cotton, sorghum and wheat. The farmers working with us will account for variables like weather, soil type and geography.
They also will test with multiple processes, including:
Following these field trials, we’re going to analyze several data points. Those will include preplant soil samples, photographs, root morphology observations, late-season intactness, harvest yield, harvest moisture and harvest test weight. Our plan is to be able to use this data to give you a better idea of how Utrisha N nutrient efficiency optimizer can help keep your customers’ crops healthy and productive.
Utrisha N sales are planned for later this year, and additional training tools will be available later this summer. You can check with your Corteva Agriscience representative to learn more about the product and how you can bring it to your customers.
This is just one of several biologicals Corteva has in the pipeline. Those solutions include more biostimulants, as well as pheromones and biocontrol products. We know the biologicals marketplace is new and may bring with it some uncertainty. So, as you and your customers, explore these new options, consider a partner you can trust to bring you solutions you can rely on as farming needs evolve and change.
